Programs of Omicron Omega
Locally, we execute the AKA international programs and its 2018-2022 theme: Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service. The International Program includes five program targets designed to advance the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. with excellence and underscore our commitment to sustainable service.
Omicron Omega Chapter’s highlights of the Excellence Program include support of local HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), Miles College and Lawson State Community College; the HBCU Youth Forum for local high school students; the annual HBCU College Fair and ACT Boot Camp for #CAP students through Target 1. For Target 2, Omicron Omega partnered with the American Heart Association for the annual Heart Walk and AARP for several Care for the Caregiver events. Additionally, we held a Red Table Talk on nutrition, self-care and mental health for the community. In the chapter’s newsletter, healthy meal recipes are provided to the members. For Target 3 of the Excellence Program the chapter partners yearly with SCLC for an annual distribution of hygiene kits and feeding of the homeless and senior citizens. The chapter led the Colorism Conversation and Black Arts Movement with Ramsay and Wenonah High School students as part of Target 4 programming. For Target 5 a total of 3,950 pairs of shoes have been collected for Soles for Souls. Several members from the chapter were a part of mission trips to Ghana and Haiti where they hand-delivered little dresses and school supplies to Ghana and Haiti collected by chapter members.
The five program targets and our local initiatives in these areas for 2018-2022 are:
